Title: Using DEEPSOIL: An equivalent linear and nonlinear seismic site response analysis software platform
Purpose:
This short course will introduce the latest release of DEEPSOIL (V7) for seismic site response analysis. The course will provide attendees with a background on SRA and the development of the DEEPSOIL platform. It will cover the various modules available including motion processing, equivalent linear analysis, nonlinear analysis with and without pore water pressure generation. The course will also include a number of hands-on exercises to gain familiarity with the development of model input and evaluation of analysis results.

- Automatic subdivision of input soil profile is now enabled to achieve proper discretization based on maximum target propagated frequency.
- Ability to perform layer thickness, shear wave velocity and dynamic curve randomizations for soil profile.
- Output is provided in relational database format, which allows a user to retrieve large data sets efficiently.

-DEEPSOIL will now produce both total and relative velocity and displacement time histories.

-The outputs shown at the end of an analysis are total acceleration, relative velocity, and relative displacements – all relative values are given relative to the base of the profile (i.e. the input motion).

This is pre-release software and should be used for testing and evaluation purposes only. Version 5.1 remains available as the current stable release. The main updates in version 6 include:
- Completely rewritten computational core that is approximately 1 order of magnitude faster than previous DEEPSOIL releases (computational time reduced by a factor of 10 or more).
- Significant updates to many of the analysis windows.
- The number of concurrent analyses in batch mode is no longer limited to 4 if the hardware supports additional threads (see Options menu to set the maximum).
- Users can now conduct single-element tests to model hysteretic behavior along a user-defined strain path.
- Added the option to run an equivalent linear analysis when running a nonlinear analysis without requiring any change to an existing nonlinear profile.
- The deconvolution routine has been rewritten and is available as part of frequency domain linear and equivalent linear analyses.
- Added the ability to conduct timestep reductions of input motions using zero-padding in the frequency domain.
- Added the option to use zero-padded frequency domain interpolation for calculation of acceleration increments during time domain analyses (new default behavior).

DEEPSOIL v5.0 is now available for download. This build is recommended for all users. Please

- DEEPSOIL is now offered in a 64-bit compatible version.
- The DEEPSOIL user interface has been updated using the latest .NET components (.NET 4.0).
- DEEPSOIL will now display the progress of an analysis within the interface (all platforms) and in the taskbar (Windows7 only).
- DEEPSOIL will now prevent the system from “sleeping” while an analysis is running.
- The motion library has been improved. It now includes the acceleration, velocity, and displacement time histories, the response spectrum and the Fourier amplitude spectrum.
- The library can also scale input motions to a desired acceleration or by a chosen scale factor.
- The computational core has been optimized for Windows7.
- DEEPSOIL can now calculate the response spectrum using three methods: Newmark Method, Duhamel Integral, and Frequency Domain (default). This is set during each analysis on step 4.
- Baseline correction, site-class conversion, and curve fitting code has been rewritten and optimized.
- DEEPSOIL is now associated with .dp files. Profiles can now be opened from Windows Explorer, allowing a profile to be opened without needing to open DEEPSOIL first.
- DEEPSOIL now calculates and displays the implied strength profile based on the soil properties entered in step 2.
- New input motions have been included. All motions are taken from the PEER Strong Motion Database. Metadata for these motions can be found at the end of the manual.
- Corrected vertical stress calculation for layers above the water table during post-processing.
